I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “life’s too short to not (insert gluttonous activity here).” There is some truth in the idea, though. According to Wikipedia, we have approximately 72 years to live our lives. To me, that’s short! I feel like I just started understanding enough about life to actually do something with myself…..and I’m 25, 1/3 of the way through my time.
Do Something Crazy and Never Look Back
For years I’ve thought about writing. I have been writing, but never publically, with an exception for the occasional heartfelt post on Facebook. On my 25th Birthday, I asked myself, “what am I waiting for?” Affirmation? Just the right amount of time? An offer to write? Honestly, I don’t know what I was waiting for, I think I was just lazy or scared or both.
I took the leap of faith into the shark-filled world of writing and here I am. I’m writing on my independent blog and as a freelance blogger and its working! Today I celebrate the tiny victory of being told by a client that I’ll be listed as the author of the blog post I provided her. Today, I’ve graduated from ghostwriter to author.
For years I’ve had a dream of living and working in Europe. The first time I made an attempt to achieve this goal was right after my undergraduate studies and I quickly realized, I simply wasn’t qualified. I’m back at chasing the dream again as a Master of Science and I’m still underqualified, but I’m done waiting because life is not only too short but too precious to not put all my effort into living my best life.
It isn’t easy. Every day I have to think of creative ways to make money, save money, and find a way to get an extended visa. But it’s all worth it. The stress is exhilarating because I’m becoming the person I want to be. I’m doing what I’m meant to do.
Shoot for the Moon and Land Among the Stars
Often times your first “crazy” idea isn’t all that crazy at all. If a thought keeps recurring in your mind, you’re doing yourself a disservice by silencing it. If people call you crazy for having a big dream, you’re doing yourself a disservice by accepting their opinion as your own. Take a leap of faith and see what happens. Failure is likely, but victory is just as likely.
The truth is if you keep waiting to have enough money, time, courage, etc. these things you think you need will never come. Make the money, make the time, make the courage, make it all. Now! If you shoot for the moon, you’re destined to land among the stars.
