Strong Body, Strong Mind

A strong body leads to a strong mind. As someone who has suffered from depression for most of my life, I know the struggle of trying to get out of bed at 6:00 a.m. just to get a workout in. I also know the benefit of actually doing it. We all have our different mental challenges, but I can guarantee that everyone can benefit from raising his or her heart rate on a daily basis.

How does health relate to working together?

Like I’ve said in some of my previous blog posts, sharing is crucial. The more we share about our life experiences, the more opportunity we have to help someone that is seeking guidance. Therefore, I think it is incredibly important to discuss health on The Science of Working Together. For some people, healthy means just eating right. For others, healthy means being super fit and eating right. No matter how you define healthy, I think we can all agree that when our body feels good, our mind feels good.

A professional runner friend of mine recommended that I read the book, Head Strong by Dave Asprey. Given that it was recommended by an athlete, I assumed the author was an athlete, coach, or former athlete. I was wrong. Dave Asprey is a tech entrepreneur from Silicon Valley. He was a millionaire by the age of 26 and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on medical tests to figure out why his body was dragging his mind down. After years of research, he was able to “biohack” his own body to optimize his mental and physical performance. He looked at what his brain craved and changed his diet to satisfy these needs.

What’s the Point?

The purpose of this post is to encourage a discussion on health and how it affects the work we can do. Upon returning to the states from my travel’s, I’ve had the opportunity to listen to my body and look for what it needs. It feels like I am starting from square one with my health, but at least I am getting started! I want anyone that reads this to know that being fit and healthy isn’t just for the gym rats, instagram babes, and professional athletes. Fitness is a necessary human activity. CEOs, business owners, researches, scientists, authors, and everyone else needs good health to continue doing what they love.
